PRIMARY SCHOOL

 Learning by Collaboration

Primary School is an environment where knowledge is built as students and teachers engage in inquiry-based learning.

In Primary School, students and teachers are partners on a learning journey. As part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), the inquiry-based curriculum framework provokes students to be active critical thinkers, considering traditional disciplines against a global backdrop, while also exploring their own cultural context. Our goal in the Primary School is to make each day as meaningful, compelling, challenging, and positive an experience as possible.

Preschool

In Preschool our three, four, and five-year-olds experience learning through intentional free and guided play. The Preschool program includes music, visual art, physical education, Portuguese, and is further enriched with a variety of after-school activities. A day in Preschool combines elements of the Reggio Emilia approach, recognizing students as individually expressive and creative, encouraging contact with different materials, and working actively with their hands, minds, and emotions.

As part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), content is taught within a real-world context that allows students to make meaningful connections between their lives and what they learn in the classroom, building knowledge in both English and Portuguese.

Elementary School

Elementary School consists of students in grades one through five (ages 6 to 10) and focuses on inquiry. Here, students learn and continue to build on their understanding of tolerance, respect, and global-mindedness. As part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), students are guided toward making significant connections between traditional classroom disciplines (math, science, arts, social studies, language arts, etc.), discovering real-life applications, and creating personal meaning. Our students have voice, choice, and ownership for their own learning. We believe that when students have agency, the relationship between them and the teacher becomes a true partnership.
