BRAZILIAN PROGRAM
Pan American's Brazilian Studies Program Philosophy
The philosophy of the Brazilian Studies Program at Pan American is to ensure that students have the depth of knowledge for success at post-secondary university in Brazil as well as to meet the requirements to issue the Brazilian diploma at the end of Grade 12. With literature and social studies as the key subjects, the Brazilian Studies Program is composed of Portuguese language, Brazilian literature, and Brazilian social studies. Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum Parameters, the Common National Curriculum Base, and the Cross-Curriculum Themes, from Early Childhood Education through High School, in accordance with the Law of Directives and Bases of National Education established by the Ministry of Education (MEC). In addition, it reconciles the requirements of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years programme (MYP), contemplating the development of each student's IB Learner Profile.
Our international students also have the opportunity to learn Portuguese as an additional language. In these classes, the student will learn language construction and develop oral and written skills. Our students benefit from the strong ties our school has with the local culture, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in Brazilian culture. Our Portuguese Language program challenges students to master the language and explore the characteristics of communication and expression, fostering an attitude of seeking to understand before being understood. Students build more than just language skills: they also build character. For more information on additional language teaching, click here.
