Pan American School Announces Partnership with Military Training Program
  • Pan American School

Pan American School has established a partnership with the Escola de Instrução Militar (EsIM) in collaboration with the Centro de Preparação de Oficiais da Reserva de Porto Alegre (CPOR/PA). This voluntary program allows students to complete military reserve training alongside their regular academic studies, providing an opportunity for civic engagement and leadership development through service.

The EsIM program runs during school hours for 18 weeks, enabling students to fulfill their military service requirements while developing discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills. Upon completion, participants receive a 2nd Category Reserve Certificate and Certificate of Military Service Time.

Developing Leadership and Civic Skills

"While we prepare students for global opportunities, we also recognize the importance of engaging with civic activities here in Brazil," explains Ms. Barbara Ribeiro, Brazilian Program Director. "Military training offers unique challenges, such as collaboration, practical leadership experience, and resilience, that complement what students develop through academics, athletics, and community service".

The program includes physical training, leadership exercises, field experiences, and visits to public and private institutions. Participants develop practical competencies applicable across all professional contexts: effective teamwork, clear communication, and resilient problem-solving.

"Military training builds specific skills that stem from students’ voluntary engagement and personal commitment," notes Mr. Daniel Simões, Director of Learning and Teaching. "By choosing to participate, students extend their interests, connect with peers who share similar motivations, and engage in new challenges supported by a robust structure. The accountability, resilience, and collaborative skills developed through this experience prove valuable across academic pathways, professional pursuits, and broader life contexts."

Program Details

Students interested in participating must be at least 17 years old (or turning 17 during the enrollment year), complete a selection process that includes a health inspection and an interview, and present parental authorization. The program is entirely voluntary and runs concurrently with regular academic coursework.

This partnership reflects Pan American School's commitment to developing well-rounded individuals prepared to contribute meaningfully to their communities. Service, leadership, and civic engagement represent essential dimensions of student development, and the EsIM program provides structured opportunities to cultivate these competencies.
