About Us
Pan American - the International School of Porto Alegre is an American-International school serving students from Preschool age 3 through Grade 12. Multicultural in nature, we are the only school in Porto Alegre offering international diplomas in addition to the Brazilian diploma. With a focus on academic excellence and teaching quality, we are Porto Alegre's leading education provider. Our smaller size allows us to offer personalized yet challenging educational experiences for all of our students.
Primary school is an environment where knowledge is built as students and teachers engage in inquiry-based learning.
The Middle School (Grades 6 – 8) and High School (Grades 9 – 12) offer programs, courses and opportunities that are designed to meet the academic, social, and developmental needs of our students within a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment.
The Brazilian Program is comprised of Portuguese, Literature and Brazilian Social Studies. These classes take a constructivist approach while shaping student character.
Early on we begin equipping our students with the skills necessary for social and emotional growth.
Through sports, PAS promotes healthy choices, enhance social interactions and forge leadership skills.
Student experiences go beyond the classroom. Sports, arts, and the acquisition of a third language are just some of their options!

Calendar
At Pan American School we follow a North American calendar with classes beginning in late July/early August and finishing in June. For our 2023-2024 school year, we will begin classes July 31, 2023 with the first semester ending December 20, 2023. We begin the second semester on January 29, 2024 and we end the second semester and school year on June 18, 2024.
News & Announcements
On Tuesday, September 10, the Pan American School Boys' Soccer Team played in the third round of the Taça Anchieta. The Huskies fought bravely but were beaten 3-0 by Colégio Farroupilha's A Team. The match took place at the Colégio Anchieta pitch in Porto Alegre.
Primary School Assistant Principal Dr. Paloma Laitano wrote an article published in the Correio do Povo’s website, on September 9, about how biliteracy helps kids to develop more complete cognitive skills, favoring learning and problem-solving.
From September 5 to 8, the Pan American School (PAS) delegation, represented by PAS MUN, participated in the 22nd edition of The British School Rio de Janeiro MUN (TBSRJMUN XXII), in Rio de Janeiro.
The Pan American School of Porto Alegre, 16 students have earned the AP Capstone Diploma™. Additionally, 2 students have earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™ during the 2023-2024 school year. The AP Capstone Diploma program helps students develop critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills essential to academic success.
On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Pan American School held its annual Honors Award Ceremony. Around 60% of Secondary School students were recognized for their achievements over the 2023-2024 School Year. The awards were presented in three categories: Academic Excellence, Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills, and Service Learning. The Ceremony highlighted the students' dedication to their academic work, the development of key skills essential for lifelong learning, and their contributions to community service projects.
On the evening of Wednesday, August 28, the former students of G8 - now G9 - launched their short story book, “Entre Linhas Escritas.” The Brazilian Studies Program (PREB) organized the event at the Book Hall in the Bourbon Country shopping mall in Porto Alegre. Parents from the Pan American community were also present to attend the book signing.
