As part of the science curriculum, our Grade 7 students made beautiful 3D models of the stages of Cell Division. Led by teacher Tiago Garros, they used a variety of materials to represent the dividing cells. The outcome has been so great that we decided to show them to our school community. You are invited to come and see it during the week of November 3rd to 7th in the School foyer.

We are pleased to inform you that PAS is now ready to begin administering the MAP Measures of Academic Progress standardized test administered by the Northwest Evaluation Association. As we have previously mentioned, we will no longer be using the IOWA test of basic skills since MAP testing will allow us to better meet the individual needs of our students by making immediate curriculum adjustments depending on the results.
MAP is a computerized test that will be administered in (3) areas: Mathematics, Reading Comprehension, and English Usage. The test is individualized according to where each student is currently performing in each of these levels. The information provided by this test will allow teachers to better plan for instruction and will allow students to experience more success with their learning.
We will administer this exam to all students in grades 3-10 beginning on Monday November 03 (see attached schedule). Each class has already received an introduction to this exam and specific test taking strategies have been reviewed. It is important that your child gets plenty of rest on the day of their test. There is also no way to prepare for or study for this exam as it will measure their general abilities over time.
If you would like more information concerning this test, you are invited to visit the NWEA website at
www.nwea.org/support/pd/detail.asp?courseID=27
Specific information for parents concerning this exam in English is also available by visiting:
www.nwea.org/support/details.aspx?content=930
At PAS, we are proud to be offering this new evaluative measure that will put us on the cutting
edge of student evaluation and academic program advancement. Any question or concern you
might have can be directed to any MAP team member. Thank you for supporting us in this endeavor. |
