The Pan American School of Porto Alegre (PAS POA) is located in beautiful Porto Alegre Brazil which is situated in the southern-most region of the country. Our city was founded over 200 years ago and offers a rich and diverse culture and history. A large portion of its population emigrated from Europe (Italy and Germany) in the late 19th and 20th centuries and the residents offer a unique mix of cultures and beliefs. Porto Alegre is a modern and vibrant city of 1.5 million habitants. It has the reputation of being the most livable capital city in Brazil with less traffic and congestion and the greenest areas for any major metropolitan city.

PAS POA is a private, not-for-profit, bilingual, multi-cultural school of approximately 400 students. Our aspiration is to prepare students for success in their present and future educational studies and life. The Pan-American School is growing and currently offers the following:
- The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) from preschool to grade five and the Middle Years Program (MYP) in grades 6-10. We also offer a variety of AP courses as well as the AP Capstone Diploma. Students engage in both structured and self-selected inquiry.
- Curricular integration projects using the IB and AERO/Common Core frameworks.
- A modern media center with more than 35,000 volumes.
- Apple tablets in preschool, laptop carts for elementary and a BYOD program in grades 6-12. Each classroom has an interactive white board and all teachers are supported by our IT Integration Coaches.
- A full-time instructional coach and dedicated counselors in each section.
- Use of NWEA’s Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing in grades 1-10 in order to monitor student growth over time and to assist the classroom teacher with instructional planning.

PAS POA fully embraces and implements the International Child Protection Standards and Expectations as created by the ITFCP. As such, all candidates will be required to submit confidential references from current and past supervisors, self-declare any past criminal charges and provide comprehensive background checks before any contract is offered. All previous employers will be contacted. Failure to fully disclose any pertinent information will nullify any agreements made with the school.
Preschool & Elementary Teachers. Possible grade levels include kindergarten through fourth grade, self-contained. We utilize the PYP Curriculum framework along with AERO standards and benchmarks. Teachers work with their grade level team, PYP/Curriculum Coordinator and instructional coaches to continue to develop our curriculum and assessments. We provide ongoing IB and professional training. Classrooms are small (15-22) and have teaching assistants to support individualized instruction. PYP experience is a plus but not required. Three positions are open.
HS Math Teacher. This teacher will teach Math to grade 10 (Algebra II), 11 (Pre-Calculus), 12 (Calculus) and AP Stats while working with the Math department, MYP/Curriculum Coordinator and instructional coaches to continue to develop our curriculum and assessments. We use the IB, AERO and AP curriculum standards and benchmarks.
MS Math Teacher. This teacher will teach Math to grades 6 (general math), 7 (Pre-Algebra) and AP elective course. They will work with the Math department, MYP/Curriculum Coordinator and instructional coaches to continue to develop our curriculum and assessments. We use the IB, AERO and AP curriculum standards and benchmarks.
MS/HS English Teacher. This teacher will teach English to grades 8 - 9 and work with the English department, MYP/Curriculum Coordinator and instructional coaches to continue to develop our curriculum and assessments. We use the MYP Curriculum framework along with AERO and AP0 curriculum standards and benchmarks. MYP experience is preferred.
MS / HS Science Teacher. This teacher will teach grades 6-7 (life and earth) sciences and one section of HS AP (Bio or Environmental) and work with the Science department, MYP/Curriculum Coordinator and instructional coaches to continue to develop our curriculum and assessments. We use the MYP Curriculum framework along with AERO/AP curriculum standards and benchmarks. MYP experience is preferred.
Preschool/Elementary Science Coach. This teacher will teach grade 9 Biology and work with the PYP/MYP Coordinators to continue to develop our curriculum and assessments. We use the PYP/MYP Curriculum frameworks along with NGSS curriculum standards and benchmarks. In addition to teaching Biology, this position will also work with the primary teaching staff to develop integrated science lessons to their existing units of inquiry.
Having both content and instructional expertise, this coach will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. The Science Coach will focus on individual and group professional learning that will expand and refine the understanding about researched-based, effective science instruction for teachers. In order to meet this purpose, the Coach will provide personalized, 1:1 support based on the goals and identified needs of the existing units of inquiry. Previous PYP/MYP experience is a plus but is not necessary.
Primary Assistant Principal / PYP Coordinator. The Primary Assistant Principal/PYP coordinator must demonstrate the ability to motivate subordinates and coworkers to cooperate in attaining goals of the school and the IBO, initiate and direct appropriate change within the school and understand the implication of social, political educational and economic changes around the world and the significance they hold for the school.
The Primary Assistant Principal/PYP Coordinator oversees curriculum development, learning objectives, assessment, and academic standards. They work with the principal, faculty, students and parents to coordinate the PYP curriculum throughout the preschool and elementary schools, review and select texts and learning materials, and be responsible for maintaining IB authorization. They provide professional development opportunities and instructional resources for faculty and PAS POA community related to the PYP.
The Primary Assistant Principal/PYP Coordinator must provide skilled leadership and effective facilitation in developing, implementing and coordinating the primary curriculum and instructional program consistent within approved Board policy, the Board-approved Strategic Plan and annual budget constraints. They will also ensure that the written PYP curriculum programs are consistent with policy and that staff development opportunities support that curriculum.
HS Generalist. This person will be teaching our HS overflow classes which may include the following: Humanities (English/Social Studies and Math/Science) as well as teaching a high school elective in the Advanced Placement program. They will work with their department teams, MYP/AP Coordinator and instructional coaches to continue to develop our curriculum and assessments. We use the MYP Curriculum framework along with AERO and AP curriculum standards and benchmarks. MYP experience is preferred.
MS Generalist. This person will be teaching our MS overflow classes which may include the following: MS Humanities or MS Math/Science. They will work with their department teams, MYP/Curriculum Coordinator and the instructional coaches to continue to develop our curriculum and assessments. We use the MYP Curriculum framework along with AERO/NGSS curriculum standards and benchmarks. MYP experience is preferred.
