Welcome to the Pan American Middle School. The Middle School (Grades 6 – 8) strives to ensure that all programs, activities and events are designed to meet the academic, social and developmental needs of our Grade 6 to 8 students within a safe, supportive and encouraging environment, utilizing the resources available to PAS. The Middle School seeks to enable our students to:
PAS projects an international focus where we encourage our students to view themselves as citizens of this global village we live in. The staff, who come from USA, New Zealand, Australia, England and Brazil, bring a wealth and variety of experiences that enriches the lives of our students and presents them with challenges and concepts which broaden their international mindedness. Also, through a wide variety of activities such as Student Council (STUCO), sports tournaments, electives, arts and community service programs, PAS caters for the sporting and extra-curricula needs of our students. We recognize that each student is an individual and must be treated as such within the structure of a school environment. We also recognize that during their time in the Middle and High School, each student will undergo profound physical, mental and emotional growth as they develop their own personality, interests and identity. I believe students want to be proud of themselves, their achievements and their school. PAS strives to give them every reason and opportunity to be so. A Middle School student will begin their Middle School life in the Grade 6 Transition class where they will receive a program designed to assist them develop the self independence life skills and study habits necessary to achieve academic and cultural success in the Middle and High School. Individual lockers instead of a homeroom desk, homework agendas and a schedule with specialist teachers for each class are some of the aspects of student life that a Middle School student will meet for the first time but which they will receive help with in developing strategies to organize themselves. At the conclusion of their Grade 8 year, our students will graduate with an American Middle School Diploma and a Brazilian Middle Years Diploma. We honor this achievement with a Graduation Ceremony, usually in conjunction with the graduating senior High School students, at which the entire PAS family join together and celebrate the joy of being a member of the PAS Middle School. |
