Easy Ways to A's
MS-HS Rules 1. To be prepared and properly dressed* for class on time. 2. To participate effectively and actively in class. 3. To be committed to the highest standards regarding the quality of the movement and the individual’s possibility to improve. 4. To respect and cooperate with teachers and classmates always. 5. To play fair and safely.
* What exactly does it mean? The clothes worn must comply with the PAS Dress Code Dress out clothes consists of a t-shirt or sweat shirt, athletic shorts or sweat pants, socks and athletic shoes. Boots, sandals, flip-flops and other kind of shoes are not acceptable for PE class; Bare foot is only allowed for the sand sports (optional); Students will have 5 minutes at the beginning of the class to change; No watches or jewelry should be worn during class time; Girls should tie their hair; Hats are only allowed outdoors; Failure to dress out for class does not excuse the student from participating in the PE class. In this case, students will wear school shorts and jerseys and will have their responsibility grade reduced.

Participation Excuse 1. A student well enough to be in school is generally well enough to be dressed and participating in class. Any exception to this will be handled on an individual basis; 2. A note from a parent is required to excuse a student due to injury or illness; 3. A student who has become ill at school will discuss the problem with the teacher before the start of class and a decision will be made as to the best course of action for the student to take; 4. Any student with an excused absence from school or excuse from class participation will be required to make up the points to get credit for class(es) missed. Grading Requirements The points earned for the quarter will determine a student’s grade. Points will be earned for responsibility (proper dress, be ready on time, etc.) – 20% of the final grade; commitment to quality (participation grade) and effort - 40% of the PE grade; and skill and physical development and game understanding – 40% of the PE grade. There might also be written and/or skill tests and other possibilities to earn extra credit points. Responsibility points will be determined as follows. This area represents 20% of the PE grade.

A maximum of 10 points per class may be earned for participation at the required level during class. The students are required to speak English during class. If a student chooses to speak Portuguese he will have the following consequences: 1. Warning; 2. 1 points will be deduced from his grade for the class; 3. If the student insists on speaking Portuguese, a written assignment will be asked, due to next class; Skill and Physical Development and Game Understanding points will be determined as follows. This area represents 40% of the PE grade · The students’ skill development will be assessed in an individual perspective; · All students will be expected to improve their skill and physical level, as well as their game understanding; · They will be assessed trough every class participation, as well as in specific tests. How to earn make-up points for Medical Excuses or Excused Absences from class 1. A written summary of a sports article from a newspaper or magazine will earn 10 points - the sport we have done in class. The summary should be at least 3-4 sentences in length and either include a copy of the article or the author, source and date of the publication. 2. A sports article can also be taken off the Internet. In this case, the student has to study 3 different articles and then prepare a summary of the information. The student has to inform the source for the 3 articles he studied. The subject is the sport we have done in class. Extra Credit Every student will have the opportunity to earn points by submitting web site links related to class subject areas. All links need to be submitted online via e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Students will be asked questions about the links they sent and will earn two points for each correct answer. All sites submitted must fall into one of the following categories related to sports, game play or exercise we are doing in the quarter. All sites are subject to approval by the teacher.
